Authorities have arrested a man who, while running from officers in Brooklyn, grabbed a loaded gun from his ankle and pointed it at police, leading one of them to shoot him in the stomach.

Teddy Spann, 24, of Staten Island, was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon and menacing a police officer.

According to a statement from the New York City Police Department, on Friday night, two officers approached Spann, who immediately ran west on Monroe Street. The officers chased him into the rear yard of Middle School 267 on Gates Avenue, where the statement said he grabbed a loaded gun from his ankle and pointed it at the officers. One of the officers fired, hitting the suspect in the abdomen.

The NYPD said the suspect was transported to Kings County Hospital and was listed in stable condition with a graze wound. The officers were treated for ringing of the ears.

The NYPD said a loaded .380 caliber firearm was found at the scene.
