Firefighters battled flames Friday morning at an apartment building in the Morris Heights section of the Bronx.

The fire broke out just before 7 a.m. in the basement of a building at 1600 Nelson Avenue near the corner of Featherbed Lane. Crews say the flames spread throughout the building, but firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control within about 15 minutes.
