Gunfire in Central Islip after drug deal goes bad

April 23, 2014 6:59:09 PM PDT
Police say a drug deal went bad in Central Islip Wednesday, prompting gunshots, a brief chase and a lockdown of nearby schools.

The gunshots were reported at East Suffolk Avenue and Wheeler Road at around 12:50 p.m.

According to the Suffolk County Police Deparment, two different groups of individuals met for a pre-arranged drug deal.

The group buying the drugs, who did not give cash to the seller, drove away and were then chased by the sellers in another vehicle through Central Islip.

The buyers crashed, got out of their car and fired several shots at the sellers who had chased them. No one was hurt.

Both groups fled and several people are in police custody. Police are still searching for other participants.

The shots prompted the brief lockdown of the Central Islip School District until authorities realized no one was injured.
