Officials have banned the consumption and possession of alcohol at a northern New Jersey volunteer fire department after a firefighter was accused of driving drunk.

Officials say Elmwood Park fire captain Russell Fenn IV was returning from a call and at the wheel of a ladder truck when he struck two utility poles.

Fenn wasn't injured. But another firefighter sustained minor injuries.

Capt. James Mullin of the Bergen County Police Department tells The Record newspaper Fenn's blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal driving limit.

Police released Fenn on his own recognizance and charged him with assault by automobile, driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.

The fire truck is worth about $250,000 and had to be taken out of service due to the damage.
