Search underway for prisoner who escaped from police car in Brooklyn

A manhunt is underway for a prisoner who escaped from a police car in Brooklyn.

Police say 26-year old Darnell Thomas managed to slip out of the back seat of a marked police car Monday at about 6:30 p.m. near Atlantic and South Portland Avenues in Prospect Heights.

Thomas was being held on a criminal mischief charge. He was arrested for breaking a window somewhere in Brooklyn, and was handcuffed when he escaped.

He is 5'8 and was last seen wearing a white shirt a jacket with gold zippers and two gold earrings in each ear.
