But when the homeowner returned after the tenants left his apartment, it was trashed and turned upside down.
But this was no break-in; his humble home became the site of a sex party.
Just when you thought you'd heard of every peril of the internet, there's this incident.
"Everything seemed good," said Ari Teman, tenant in Chelsea studio.
Ari Teman rented out his Chelsea studio on the apartment share site Airbnb to a guy named David, his brother and sister-in-law were supposedly in town for a wedding.
"It turns out by brother and sister-in-law he meant 'large orgy'," Teman said.
It was a party, for sex, in Ari's home.
When he came back to pick something up Friday night, he found about two dozen people, standing on Seventh Avenue and his renter David was among them.
"I said, 'What's going on?' He said, 'They're shutting us down.' He pauses, and he has this look of horror when he realizes who I was," Teman said.
But the horror was all Ari's. In his apartment he found several more party-goers.
"The bed was wet, pillow cases were all dirty and disgusting, a guy left his shoes in the kitchen cabinet," Teman said.
All of his furniture was outside the back door of his garden apartment.
"Everything was dropped right here. So we Googled the phone number and up comes result number 1, XXX Freak Fest. So I say, 'Well, I think we should stop touching things,'" Teman said.
The staff of the doorman building had busted the party and even called the cops.
Greg Schanuel lives right upstairs.
"Why wasn't I invited?" Schanuel joked.
But in all seriousness, he is happy his coop board has decided to give Ari, who doesn't own his apartment, the boot.
"The only time there has been theft in my really secure building has been when people who rent it out rent it out to others," Schanuel said.
Airbnb says they are paying for all of the damages and helping Teman find a new apartment to rent. They have also banned David from ever renting on their site again.
