FAA investigating drone over fatal Connecticut crash

The federal government is investigating the use of a drone near a fatal car crash in Connecticut.

The FAA says it is looking into police reports that a remote-control craft was seen near the crash in Hartford last Saturday.

Police say the equipment was being used to videotape the accident.

The FAA says the small drones, or unmanned aircraft, are illegal due to airspace restrictions. The use of drones for commercial purposes such as videography is prohibited, and violators can be subject to penalties.

The drone operator in Connecticut has been questioned by police but not arrested.

The FAA is working to set up guidelines for commercial use of drones by the end of 2015.
