Police are investigating after several statues were found damaged and beheaded at Catholic churches in southern New Jersey.

Police found statues of Jesus, Mary and Joseph smashed and vandalized at two churches in Vineland last week.

Several statues were also missing their heads.

This comes just months after similar vandalism was found at a nearby church.

Overall nearly a dozen religious statues at two churches were damaged and destroyed.

The attacks are deeply personal for parishioners of the churches.

"I can't imagine what's going through the mind of person that would deliberately go and deface statues that are dedicated to our savior," said one parishioner, Jose Rodriguez.

Police believe the Catholic churches are being targeted, but the Camden Diocese does not want to limit access to the statues for parishioners. They intend to rebuild the statues.
