Moving Halloween?

Bill Ritter's daily take on the news.

Fascinating debate going on in social media, raised by my pal Liz Cho, who suggested that maybe we should consider moving Halloween to the last Saturday night in October. I think it's kind of brilliant. Without suggesting that I support this devil/witch worship of a "holiday" that stuffs terrible refined sugar treats in little kids' mouths, there is merit to not having it on a school night. Hard for parents, hard for teachers the next day.

Look up Liz Cho on Facebook ? wow! Let the broomsticks fly!

And we're jump-started our Operation 7 Save A Life fire safety campaign because of yet another deadly fire in our area. Four deadly fires since Friday, with 11 people killed. Today, with the help of the FDNY and with the generosity of Kidde, I passed out batteries and new smoke detectors to folks in the Bronx, many of whom acknowledged that they had a detector, but no batteries.

A smoke detector without a battery is like b***s on a bull. It doesn't work. And it can't save your life. We're using the #ABC7Savealife as a social media theme of our campaign.

Meanwhile, tonight at 11, we're covering the last of the 3 debates for New York Mayor, as the latest poll shows Democrat Bill de Blasio with a 39 point lead of Republican Joe Lhota, with the election set for Tuesday. Our political reporter Dave Evans is at the debate for us.

We'll also have any breaking news of the night, plus Meteorologist Lee Goldberg's AccuWeather forecast, and Rob Powers with the night's sports. I hope you can join Sade Baderinwa and me, tonight at 11.
