Undercover cop charged in motorcycle assault case

His lawyer wanted charges limited to criminal mischief. But no way was that going to happen.

Wojciech Braszcock - the New York Police undercover detective who was in that biker mob that attacked a family in their SUV on the West Side Highway - is now charged with some serious crimes: gang assault and assault.

It's a huge embarrassment for the NYPD, a cop charged as a perp, and, more importantly, a man sworn to uphold the law, accused with participating in a thug assault that was videotaped, went viral, and outraged millions of people.

Braszcock (pronounced Brash-chalk) initially told other cops he was in the crowd but didn't do anything to stop the attack because he didn't want to blow his cover. He has for years worked in intelligence and drugs in an undercover capacity. Most other cops bought the argument. Just one problem: Somebody videotaped this detective attacking the car. The lie may have done him in - if he's found guilty.

We'll have the latest, tonight at 11.

We'll also have the latest on the government shutdown, and we're looking into the latest Gallop poll that shows Pres. Obama's approval rating at 37 (hardly something to write home about), but Congress's at just 5 percent!

We'll also have any breaking news of the night, plus Meteorologist Lee Goldberg's AccuWeather forecast, and Rob Powers with the night's sports. I hope you can join Sade Baderinwa and me, tonight at 11.
