Palace Hotel unveils $140 million renovation

Take a first look at a multi-million dollar renovation inside the historic Palace Hotel.

"Every area of this hotel has been changed, altered, improved," said David Chase, General Manager of the New York Palace.

A gilded lobby and 909 rooms are inside the New York Palace Hotel, all of which have been redone in a $140 million renovation.

"At the NY palace our smallest room is 360 square feet and 460 feet, many of these boutiques or newer hotels that have opened," Chase said.

And then there are suites that are even larger, a 3,000 foot sleek two bedroom filled with art, and the 5,000 square foot champagne suite, a jaw dropping triplex, stocked with plenty of champagne.

"So who rents a room like this and what does it go for?" Eyewitness News asked.

"$25,000 per night, we get guests who are Middle East royalty or leisure," Chase said.

The deck has killer views and a hot tub big enough for two.

The renovation of this suite was $3.5 million.

Now consider that back in 1882 the Villard Mansion, which makes up the western most part of the hotel cost $12 million to build.

Now the Villard name carries through at a new restaurant. There are six new dining or beverage spots including Troubles Trust, a bar that pays tribute to one time hotel owner, Leona Helmsley's dog Trouble.

"The dog would surely enjoy the bar, it has a central location in the hotel," Chase said.
