Long Island man accused of soliciting for fake charity

A Long Island man is accused of soliciting money for a nonexistent charitable event.

David Papik of Farmingville has been charged with second-degree scheme to defraud.

Suffolk County police say the man went door-to-door soliciting money in Farmingville.

He allegedly said he was collecting for a walk to benefit the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.

One woman reportdly gave him $10, but she became suspicious and notified police.

The investigation is continuing.

Police ask anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.

It was not immediately clear if Papik has a lawyer.
