12-year-old boy arrested in brutal Stamford beating

Stamford police say they've arrested a 12-year-old suspected gang member in connection with the beating and robbery of a 39-year-old man earlier this month.

The injuries are grusome--and tough to look at. The 39-year old mexican immigrant nearly lost vision in one eye as a result of a brutal beating which took place on Alden street June 1st.

The victim suffered a broken jaw, eye socket and fractured ribs. A couple of weeks later he returned to work in downtown Stamford and spotted one suspect on a bicyle. Police determined which middle school the child attended and showed the victim a yearbook from which he identified his attacker.

The sixth grader was one of five people who jumped the victim during the robbery. Police say the gang may be linked to other robberies targetting immigrants who may be reluctant to report a crime.

The boy's name wasn't released because of juvenile offender laws. He's being detained at a juvenile jail.

Some who live in the west side neighborhood say acts of violence are not uncommon. One neighborhood resident says she was attacked while she was pregnant

Police are still searching for four other young suspects.
