The first tropical storm already

Bill Ritter's daily take on the news.

I do not want to be the purveyor of doom, but I can't shake this slight feeling of dread as we enter this year's hurricane season.

The first named Atlantic storm is approaching. Andrea is her name, but don't let her gentle sound fool you. This fast-moving tropical storm is bringing lots of rain, and the possibility of flash flooding is real.

Every summer there's something bad, weather-wise. Lightning strikes, floods, shore erosion, trees down. Weather isn't just weather anymore, it's severe weather. And, sorry, but that scares me. Like the tornado in the Wizard of Oz scared me.

And so we wait for Andrea. Meteorologist Lee Goldberg is tracking the tropical storm, and timing out when it's expected to hit us. You can track it using our new AccuTrack Weather Alert app for your iPhone or Android (click here to learn more). We'll have the latest, tonight on Eyewitness News at 11, which tonight starts a tad after 11 - after Game One of the NBA Finals between the Heat and the Spurs.

We'll also have any breaking news of the night, plus Rob Powers with the rest of the night's sports. I hope you can join Sade Baderinwa and me, tonight after the game.

And a note about this column? I'll be off on Friday, so this blog will resume on Monday. Have a great weekend.
