But if you take a closer look at their numbers, you begin to wonder if the Church really wants the League speaking out.
Here's what the League says about a study done by an "institute" of Georgetown: Of the nearly 40,000 priests in the U.S. there were 34 allegations of sex abuse by minors last year. And "only" 6 were deemed credible and 15 are still being probed.
I've been trying to wrap my head around this. These are priests, supposedly servants of a higher power, and having any of them found guilty of abusing children seems unacceptable. Six credible cases ? and 15 still under review ? seems outrageous, whether you're a parent or not. Any cases of priest child sex abuse seems unacceptable. I'm just sayin'.
That came into our list of possible stories to cover tonight at 11. Also on the table ? for the second time in four days, two gay men in Midtown Manhattan were beaten by a group of thugs. Cops arrested two of the five attackers. Now they're looking for the others. But what's going on?
We'll also have any breaking news of the night, plus Meteorologist Amy Freeze (in for Lee Goldberg) with her weekend AccuWeather forecast, and Rob Powers with the night's sports. I hope you can join Sade Baderinwa and me, tonight at 11, right after 20/20.
