Two boys allegedly assaulted by New Jersey jitney driver

April 8, 2013 1:45:42 PM PDT
Two teenagers are recovering from a beating. Two jitney drivers, a father and son have been arrested. It all started with a trip into New York City.

"You shouldn't have to worry about getting into a fight especially with the bus driver that's taking you there," said Michael Geron.

A bus ride into the city, Michael Geron claims, ended with he and his friend beaten and pummeled by two drivers.

In Guttenburg, Michael 15, and his friend 16 boarded one of the many inexpensive jitney's that run along Boulevard East in New Jersey taking passengers then into the city.

Michael said the driver hit a parked car.

That was on west 4th street past Ninth avenue where the driver pulls to the side of the street.

"He says everybody get off. So everybody gets off. Nobody pays. I felt bad and gave the guy a couple of bucks," Michael said.

After Michael says he gave the driver a couple of bucks, he figured that was it. And started to walk off down 40th street, but that was not the end of it.

"He grabs me by the back of my neck and says, 'where's my f-in money, where's my f-in money?," Michael adds.

Michael gives him an extra $20 and follows him back to the bus for change. The driver, he says then suddenly throws a handfull of change at his face.

"While my friend was picking up the change, he got sucker punched," adds Michael. He then says he got pushed down the bus steps.

Port Authority police were called and arrested 22-year Kirolos Girges and his 52-year old father Sammy, charging both with asssault.

Michael now has a severely swollen knee and is on crutches. His friend also suffered bruising.

"30 people on the bus and two kids get picked out. Two young kids they see them together and unfortunately I believe they were profiled," said Michael's mother Liz Geron.
