Stranded Connecticut drivers hit with fines

February 14, 2013 3:38:33 PM PST
It is a scene that has played out over the last few days all over Bridgeport: hundreds of cars being towed away so that snow removal can take place.

The vehicles are being brought to the parking lot of Central High School, where residents are finding out that getting their cars back is a slow and expensive process.

Indeed residents have to pay the operator who took the vehicle's company towing fee ? around $190. That fee is in addition to a $70 ticket from the city.

Like most places, Bridgeport has many roads designated as snow emergency streets ? warning motorists that there is no parking allowed, and that vehicles are subject to tow. However, many say their cars were parked on residential streets and even removed from blocks that had already been cleared of snow.
