February 4, 2013 3:25:47 PM PST
A woman is recovering on Sunday night from a violent rape in broad daylight. She was attacked as she walked to the subway in Flatbush, Brooklyn. Police have released a video of the suspect hoping someone will recognize him.

The attack happened in broad daylight at about 9:45 Saturday morning.

The 22-year-old victim told police that the suspect first approached her in front of a building on Glenwood Road. Sources tell Eyewitness News that the suspect forced her at gunpoint around the corner. Surveillance video shows him wearing a Yankees hat and a zipped up coat as he held her close, and guided her down a ramp.

Eyewitness News followed the same path, which led to a set of stairs and then to a lower area. However it doesn't stop there. The suspect then took the victim down a dark hallway, which led to yet another courtyard. It is a desolate area, and even though many apartments overlook the crime scene, people living in the area tell Eyewitness News that they heard nothing.

After the rape, as the victim was left alone and beaten. Video that was released by police showed the same suspect running out of the dark hallway with his coat unzipped.

The suspect then stopped and tossed, what sources tell Eyewitness News was a condom, over the wall, and kept going. He took the young woman's cell phone and cash with him.

The gate leading to the area is now locked, but it was open on Saturday, leading many to believe the suspect knows the area, and lives somewhere in the neighborhood.

Extra attention is being paid at the school's only dorm as a result of the rape.

It sits off campus, not far from where the suspect lashed out.

A free shuttle bus is available to any student who needs it.

"We're stepping up that service on really focusing on getting students from the residence hall to where they need to be," said Keisha Anderson, Brooklyn College spokesperson.

The suspect is described as male, black, in his mid-20s, approximately 5'6"-5'7", 160 lbs., with a medium build and bald head.

Anyone with information in regards is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
