Bridgeport takes on gun buyback program

December 25, 2012 9:05:31 AM PST
An effort in Bridgeport to get guns off the streets in the wake of the deadly elementary school shooting in Newtown is continuing.

What's being billed as the largest gun buyback program in the city's history is scheduled to resume on Friday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Other buyback dates are planned for every Saturday in January, as needed.

Police will offer up to $200 for a working handgun and $75 for a working rifle. Assault-type rifles will be eligible for higher amounts.

Two local grocers are offering gift cards as incentives as well.
