Former U.S. Rep Mel Reynolds will try to win the support of voters in the 2nd Congressional District on Thursday.

"I've made mistakes but that was 18, almost 20 years ago," Reynolds said, referring to his convictions of fraud and having sex with a minor.

On Wednesday, Reynolds announced he is running for the congressional seat vacated by Jesse Jackson Jr.

He joins a list of candidates vying for the seat.

Also running-- or considering running-- for the 2nd Congressional District are former U.S. Rep Debbie Halvorson, state Senator Toi Hutchinson, state senate-elect Napoleon Harris, Alderman Anthony Beale and Jackson's brother, Jonathan Jackson.
