Ex-Dixon comptroller Rita Crundwell pleads not guilty

Former Dixon comptroller Rita Crundwell appeared in Lee County court, Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, and pleaded not guilty to allegations she stole more than $53 million from the town.

Former Dixon comptroller Rita Crundwell pleaded not guilty Wednesday to allegations she stole more than $53 million from the town.

Crundwell appeared in a Lee County court Wednesday afternoon. She faces state and federal charges.

Crundwell allegedly used the money to pay for her lavish lifestyle.

Earlier this month, a number of horses seized from Crundwell were sold at auction, bringing in more than $7 million. That money will go to the town if she is convicted.
