Central Park getting safer for cyclists, pedestrians

October 1, 2012 4:00:09 AM PDT
New York City is moving to make Central Park safer for cyclists and pedestrians.

The transportation department wants to widen lanes.

Under the plan, pedestrian lanes will go from 7 feet across to 14 feet.

Bike lanes will grow to between 9 and 11 feet.

To make room on the lower loop, one car lane will be removed.

Work could start later this month.
