September 9, 2012 11:45:04 AM PDT
Police say they have arrested a 25-year-old man who tried to get into the subway using a phony metro card and knocked an officer down a flight of stairs, injuring her.

The officer broke both ankles and had a cut on her head that required 10 stitches.

The altercation happened Saturday morning when transit district anti-crime officers saw the suspect trying to get on a "J'' train at Gates Avenue in Brooklyn with a student metro card. He is not a student.

Police say that during the arrest, he violently resisted and knocked the officer down before escaping.

Michael Ellison was arrested Saturday evening and was held on a charge of assault. It's not clear if he has an attorney.
