Tips to make you smarter

Misplacing your keys more often? Less focused at work? The key to staying smart as you age may be easier than you think.

You may be getting older, but don't worry, you can help keep your brain a little younger with some simple lifestyle changes.

All it could take is a moderate amount of exercise, eating well, managing your stress.

We know you've heard all that before but what may surprise you is that exercising 3 to 5 times a week increases blood flow to the brain and may reduce the risk of mini-strokes.

Healthy eating may also decrease stroke risk, and foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids like fish and walnuts are thought to be important for brain health.

It seems that people who eat lots of fish and seafood tend to have healthier brain aging overall.

And reducing stress through meditation may also help protect the brain.

Significant stress causes physical changes in the brain that can lead to memory loss.

There is no magic solution for preventing dementia and memory loss, but if you want to try and stay smarter longer, simple steps to exercise, eat right and meditate may give your brain a healthy boost.
