Stuyvesant HS gets interim principal after scandal

August 7, 2012 4:53:59 AM PDT
Manhattan's elite Stuyvesant High School will be getting an interim principal in the wake of a test cheating scandal.

Jie Zhang, the former head of a specialized high school in Queens, was named to temporarily head the school Monday.

She says she would like the job permanently.

Last Friday, principal Stan Teitel announced he was stepping down.

In June, a student sent a picture message of a Regents spanish exam to 69 other students.

The student who sent the text faces suspension. All of the students involved will be banned from some student groups and lose privileges such as having lunch off campus.

Students in New York state must pass tests in at least five subjects for a Regents diploma.
