A Spanish tourist is recovering from an attack with a hammer in New York City.

Police say the man and his wife were sitting on a bench at City Hall Park Monday afternoon when a man dressed in a suit struck him on the side of the head with the claw part of a hammer.

The victim, identified as 31-year-old Hugo Alejandre, of Barcelona, is at Bellevue Hospital with a skull fracture. He also suffered defensive wounds to the arms and hands, according to police.

Eyewitnesses to the attack held the suspect, 43-year-old John Yoos, of Brooklyn, until police arrived.
