The 25-year old victim was approached early Friday morning on 234th Street in Jamaica.
He was grabbed by a group of men and taken to the garage in Springfield Gardens.
A tip led investigators to the house, where they found the man unharmed.
Police arrested two suspects at the scene.
The NYPD's Internal Affairs Unit is investigating the whether the detective had any involvement in the kidnapping.
It is still unclear why the victim was targeted.
In his nearly four decades of living in the neighborhood, Gerard Mims says what happened at his neighbor's house Friday was a first.
"The guys came with the shields and the guns and the machine guns, and they went in. They brought two guys out in handcuffs," said Mims.
The two guys are the suspects: 30 year old Hakeem Clark, who lives in the house owned by the detective, and 27-year old Jason Hutson.
After police located the victim, they opened a safe containing devices and printing materials used to make fake credit cards.
The two suspects have been charged with kidnapping, criminal possession of forgery devices and unlawful possession of personal identification information.
As for the detective who owns the house, he has been suspended but not charged, and that is why police are not officially releasing his name.
