Streep, Kline to bring Shakespeare to Central Park

June 18, 2012 5:53:49 AM PDT
Kevin Kline will play Romeo opposite Meryl Streep's Juliet Monday for a one-night-only staged reading of William Shakespeare's play in Central Park.

Streep and Kline will combine to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of its Shakespeare in the Park series. Daniel Sullivan will direct.

To make that night even more giddy, Al Pacino will be honored for his body of work with the Public, which includes his playing Shylock in "The Merchant of Venice" in 2010.

Streep has performed five times at the park's Delacorte Theatre since 1976, most recently in "Mother Courage and Her Children" in 2006 with Kline, who has performed nine times in the park since 1970.

Tickets for the gala, which are usually free, aren't cheap this time around. The tickets for the benefit begin at $1,500.
