FEMA on Wednesday aprroved reimbursements totaling $7 million for debris removal last year after Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee.
The town of Brookhaven will get $4.3 million, and Smithtown will get $1 million. Suffolk County will get the remaining $1.7 million.
Irene's winds and rain toppled trees and power lines, damage homes and knocking out power to 450,000 residents. Lee struck two weeks later and piled on more damage.
Governor Andrew Cuomo's office reports that Long Island communities spent $68.2 million cleaning up from the storms.
