City Harvest's Feed The Kids campaign: May 13-June 17

May 25, 2012 11:45:48 AM PDT
A little food can go a long way.City Harvest will hold its 12th annual "Feed the Kids" campaign in between Mother's Day and Father's Day (May 13-June 17). During that time, companies, organizations and individuals are asked to collect kid-friendly, nonperishable foods.

Last year's drive raised more than 155,000 pounds of food, which City Harvest delivered to nearly 600 emergency food programs in all five boroughs to help feed children and their families throughout the summer.

The most-needed items include canned fruit, canned vegetables, peanut butter (plastic jars), macaroni and cheese (packaged) and hot and cold cereal (packaged, family-sized). City Harvest cannot accept unlabeled or dented cans, any open packaging, products that need to be refrigerated, homemade foods, or expired products.

City Harvest will pick up food drive donations of 100 pounds or more through June 29. To estimate the weight, a soup can is generally one pound. Please note that the weight of smaller items should be taken into consideration when totaling the donation size. Donations less than 100 pounds can be dropped off at your local firehouse or police station.
