Pit bull recovering after being starved by owner

May 8, 2012 6:45:17 AM PDT
A Brooklyn man is under arrest Tuesday, charged with animal cruelty for allegedly starving his dog.

Authorities say that in December, 57-year-old Leedell Walker claimed his pit bull Drew refused to eat.

The dog weighed just 37 pounds.

Vets found bits of towels, plastic and other trash in the dog's stomach, signs he was going through the garbage looking for food.

Drew now weighs 65 pounds and soon will be ready for adoption.

If convicted, Walker faces up to one year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine. He is due in Kings County Criminal Court on June 11.
