Aire provides Manhattan's relaxing escape

On a side street in TriBeCa away from the traffic, you'll find Aire, a cast iron building transformed to a paradise, with 16,000 square feet to remind you of an ancient Roman spa.

"The experience is to disconnect body and mind, come here to relax and don't feel like you're in New York City," said Elisabeth Mas of The Aire. "We tried to rescue all the elements, like the columns the beams, to feel like it has some ancient historical parts."

Well, ancient going back to 1883. The room feels much older.

The Aire has several locations in Spain. New York City seemed like a great city to expand to.

"New York City is one of the most stressful cities, so we think it's the perfect city for a spa and luxurious bath house to disconnect and feel like you're in another world," said Mas.

There are 6 pools in all, each with varying temperatures. Alternating from one temperature to another is very good for your skin.

Also invigorating is The Thermae, which sports a thousand jets. It's like a hot cauldron bubbling over.

The Flotarium is soothing in a different way - a salt bath like the dead sea.

"Floating for 15 minutes is like 1 hour of siesta," said.

There's also a steam room with eucalyptus and a massage area, for 15 minute sessions or longer, and you can linger in between on heated marble benches.
