1 dead in overnight house fire in Mendham

Authorities are investigating a deadly house fire in New Jersey overnight Monday.

The fire started just after midnight and quickly spread through the home in Mendham, Morris County.

Neighbors called 911 when they saw smoke and flames coming from the Woodland Road home.

Crews had to knock down the flames before they could enter the building.

Police say the resident, 65-year-old John Beck, was trapped inside the home and did not survive.

The preliminary investigation has determined the fire started in the kitchen.
