Thai Basil Chicken at Ploi Thai

Randi Ocharun grew in her mom's kitchen back in Thailand, gaining the skills that she needed to open a restaurant.

Ploi Thai is her second restaurant. It's located in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The food is a mix of dishes from Bankok and Northern Thailand from curries to noodles.

One of Randi's most popular dishes is the Chicken Pad Gra Pow or Chicken with Thai Basil.

In a wok, Randi saut?s the chicken with garlic, soy sauce and oyster sauce. Bell peppers, onions and string beans are added, along with hot chilies and vegetable broth. The basil comes in at the very end and fried basil goes on top.

RECIPE: Chicken Pad Gra Pow or Chicken with Thai Basil

Ingredients

Ground chicken 1/2 Lb.
Oyster sauce 3 Tbsp.
Minced garlic 1/2 Tsp.
Cut string bean 1/2 cup
Light soy sauce 2 Tbsp.
Slice white onion 1/2 cup
Mixed red, green bell peppers 1/2 cup
Vegetable oil 3 Tbsp.
Sugar 1 Tsp.
Fresh basil 6-7 leaves
Chopped hot chili 1 Tbsp.
Vegetable broth 1/4 cup

In hot wok, heat oil, add garlic and chicken. Cook for a minute.

Add soy sauce and oyster sauce. Cook for another minute.

Add the onions, peppers and string beans. Cook for about two more minutes.

Add the sugar, the hot chili and the broth. Cook another minute.

Add basil and cook another 20 seconds before plating.

Serves 1.

Note: You can also deep fry a couple of basil leaves and use as a garnish.
