End of era at Bronx church

Sunday marked the end of an era for a church in the Bronx.

Parishioners at St. Augustine's celebrated their final mass Sunday morning.

They've been holding mass inside a school auditorium since the actual church building was closed two years ago.

Founded in 1849, it was shut down by the New York Archdiocese due to leaks and structural damage.

Next month, St. Augustine's will merge with another nearby church, Our Lady of Victory.

"It's bittersweet. I've seen a lot of things happen at this church and it's hard to believe after 162 years that it's ending here on this site. But it's a death here, but we're giving birth to a new parish," parishioner William Naedler said.

After Sunday's mass, the parishioners marched in a parade to their new church, about a mile away.
