Cancer screenings not useful for elderly?

December 14, 2011 7:58:15 PM PST
A new study casts doubt on how useful cancer screenings are for the elderly.

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force says adults 75 and older should not get routine screenings for certain cancers, such as breast and prostate, even though most do.

Researchers say it's not clear if the screenings are effective late in life and more studies are needed.

Current recommendations are based on studies with younger adults.
