The fire broke out just before 7 a.m. in Elmsford, and responding officers found a 20 foot by 20 foot wooden shed fully engulfed in flames. The dogs, all Italian Bull Mastiff, Cane Corso breed, were kenneled in the shed by the homeowner.
The Elmsford Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the fire.
Eight of the dogs were between 5 months and 7 years, and the remaining were puppies.
The initial investigation determined that several heat sources, including heat lamps and space heaters, were found to be in the shed. It is believed that one of these heat sources caused the fire. The owner of the dogs has been identified as 46-year-old Ross Taylor.
The fire is currently under investigation by the Town of Greenburgh Police Department Detective Division, the Westchester SPCA and the Town of Greenburgh Building Department.
