Arrest made in at least one Brooklyn sex attack

An arrest was made late Tuesday in at least one of the sex assaults that have been happening in Brooklyn.

Police say 26-year-old Adolfo Martinez groped a woman near a subway station in Sunset Park, and now they trying to find out if he is connected to the other attacks that have left the community on edge.

Martinez is charged with forcible touching and sexual abuse after authorities say he attacked an 18-year-old woman as she left the subway station at 36th Street and Fourth Avenue at around 8 p.m. Monday.

He was picked up at 42nd Street and Fifth Avenue in Brooklyn at around 9 p.m. Tuesday after police realized he matched the description of the Sunset Park attacker, as well as matching footage from video surveillance in the area.

The Monday night attack was not linked to the active pattern of at least 13 sex assaults, but detectives brought in victims from those attacks to conduct lineups at the precinct.

They are still looking into whether Martinez can be connected to any of the other assaults.

Police have also released a new sketch of a suspect in Sunday night's attack on a young woman walking on Vanderbilt Street. That woman screamed and broke free, and her attacker fled.

The victims are usually targeted after they get out of a subway tunnel, and they are usually petite women wearing skirts. In most instances, the attack happens before they enter a building.

An incident Monday night in Windsor Terrace is part of the pattern of attacks that started March 20. That first assault, in Park Slope, was caught by a surveillance camera.
