PORT JEFFERSON --
Three boaters are safe on dry land after being rescued from a sinking boat in the Long Island Sound.
Police say the men were sailing from East Hampton to Port Jefferson Thursday night when they got caught in a storm with 6- to 8-foot waves.
They put out a distress call after they nearly capsized and the boat started taking on water.
Suffolk County marine crews and fire department boats found the stranded men and rescued them.
The boaters were taken to the hospital and treated for hypothermia.
