Disney Cruise lines will soon be calling Manhattan Cruise Terminal its newest home port.

Beginning in May 2012, the Disney Magic is set to embark at least 20 cruises from the city's Manhatten Cruise Terminal.

The announcement made today by Mayor Bloomberg will bring an additional 45,000 passengers into the Big Apple and bring in an estimated $11 million in spending.

Disney is the 6th major cruise line to call the city its homeport. New York City ranks among the nation's top ten cruise ports. The addition of Disney is anticipated to help meet the Mayor's goal of attracting 50 million tourists annually by 2012.

"We are thrilled the Disney will start making calls in New York City," said NYC Economic Development Corporation President Seth W. Pinsky.

The cruise ship industry plays in important role in the city's tourism industry and overall economy. Cruise passengers and crew spent approximately $144 million while ashore in New York City the city last year, contributing to the record-breaking 48.7 million visitors who came to the city last year.
