The Brooklyn Bridge has been reopened to cars and pedestrians after police say a report of a suspicious package turned out to be a false alarm.

The report came in around 9:40 a.m. Friday. The bridge was reopened less than an hour later.

Police say someone on the walkway saw a flashlight with copper wiring and called 911.

The bridge, which was opened in 1883, is undergoing a series of renovations for the next several years. There is a lot of construction on both the Manhattan and Brooklyn ends.
