Search intensified for missing man

Thousands of volunteers have searched for a Long Island man who went missing while on his way to work last Monday.

Susan Mayer can't bare the thought of life without her husband of 37 years.

It's been a full week, and there's still no sign of the 65-year-old father of four.

"It's surreal, it could happen to anyone. I'm hoping someone sees him," Susan Mayer said.

Mayer left for work last Monday, from his Great Neck home, but never made to his job in Huntington.

The only clue is a series of cell phone calls Mayer made on the day he disappeared.

His final call was traced to the Riverhead area.

On that call, he dialed a non working number for his deceased parents the afternoon of Monday, October 4th.

Sunday, hundreds of volunteers searched the Riverhead area looking for Mayer's silver 2010 Nissan Sentra.

Relatives say he is a devoted family man of faith and has strong ties to the Great Neck synagogue where he was a former president.

Mayer had a tumor 12 years ago and was on anti-seizure medication, but his wife says none of it explains his disappearance.

"The earth isn't flat, people don't fall off!" Susan Mayer said.

Search organizers ask anyone with information to call 347-927-7701 or 516-847-5005.
