Many who braved the elements camped out since last Thursday. They know their chances of getting the job are slim but this is a chance for a better life. The Elevator Mechanics Union is handing out 750 applications for one hundred jobs.
The call for work brought out crowds far exceeding the number of applications, but those who walked away with a chance of success are pleased.
"It's a great job. The benefits are great," applicant Joe Wallace explained. "It's just a good experience."
Gabriel Granados was the last applicant. He said his success is bitter sweet, "There are people right next to me who should've made it and didn't because of other people's inconsideration."
Ted Bernard was told there were no more applications and said he's disappointed, "It's not the worst thing in the world. I mean I'm working right now but this would have been a better opportunity."
